I had the good fortune of attending a Yamaha School of Music for a few years as a young kid. Ear training, rhythm, scales, keyboards. Elementary school chorus, alto saxophone 4th–10th grades in public school. A year of piano lessons, and no discipline to practice. Then I got to sing in a band in high school
So I taught myself guitar chords senior year and began writing songs. At some point they weren’t complete crap. A few bands throughout college. A few decades later and the songs are few and far between, but I still love to sing and play them.
